The text is set in Newsreader, served from this site and not from anyone else’s. The measure is fixed, the page carries no tracking, and every essay is a static file that renders with scripting turned off.
The diagrams were drawn for these essays. They use the six colours of the page and no others, they are plain SVG, and the numbers in them come from the essay they sit in.
Each essay is headed by a single frame from a film. They are reproduced for commentary and criticism, and every one of them is a scene the essay beneath it argues about. The line under each picture names the film, the year and the director. Copyright stays with the studios and the rights holders, who have no connection to this site and have not endorsed it. If you hold rights in one of these films and would rather the frame came down, write to [email protected] and it will come down.
The frames are colour matched to the palette of this site so that they sit in the page instead of shouting at it, and that is the only change made to them. Nothing in a frame is added, removed, moved or regenerated, and no still on this site has been near an image model.
